The Play Company, a small not-for-profit Obie Award-winning off-Broadway theatre company, seeks interns to join our team. The Play Company, now in its 13th season, produces and develops adventurous plays from around the world. Interns work closely with the Founding and Executive Producers, gaining valuable first-hand knowledge of what is involved in running a professional, independent theatre company in New York.

DEVELOPMENT INTERN

The Development Internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in learning about institutional as well as individual fundraising in the non-profit industry. Special interest in the performing arts is a plus. The Development Intern will work directly with Executive leadership on developing and executing fundraising campaigns, writing funding proposals and reports, and planning fundraising and other donor events. Additional duties include donor and general correspondence, and other day-to-day or long-term duties as assigned. 

The ideal candidate for this position is a proactive self-starter with the ability to think strategically and contribute creative ideas to The Play Company’s fundraising efforts. Applicants must be responsible, detail-oriented individuals with superior time-management skills, excellent writing and organizational skills and a solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel on both Mac and PC platforms. Academic credit available if needed. Monthly Unlimited Metro Card provided with a commitment of 20+ hours per week. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. GENERAL MANAGEMENT INTERN

The General Management Internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in all aspects of performing arts management, including general management, company management and organizational leadership. The General Management Intern will work directly with the Executive Producer  and Associate General Manager on overseeing the company’s main stage productions and readings, planning and executing institutional marketing strategies, corresponding with company stakeholders and donors, managing organizational operations, and other long-term projects or day-to-day duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position is a proactive self-starter with superior time-management skills and the ability to work independently. Applicants must be responsible, detail-oriented individuals with excellent writing and organizational skills and a solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, on both Mac and PC platforms. Experience with QuickBooks software and accounting skills are a plus. Academic credit available if needed. Monthly Unlimited Metro Card provided with a commitment of 20+ hours per week. MARKETING INTERN

The Marketing Internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in learning about and contributing their ideas to innovative, cost-effective marketing in the non-profit industry. Special interest in the performing arts is a plus. The Marketing Intern will work directly with the Marketing and Outreach Associate and the Executive Producer on developing and executing marketing strategies for the organization, ranging from season-long campaigns to production and performance specific marketing strategies. Intern will assist with print as well as online and social media marketing strategies, and will help maintain The Play Company’s web presence. Other long-term projects or day-to-day duties may be assigned.

The ideal candidate for this position is a proactive self-starter with the ability to think strategically and contribute creative ideas to The Play Company’s marketing campaign. Applicants must be responsible, detail-oriented individuals with superior time-management skills, excellent writing and organizational skills and a solid knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, on both Mac and PC platforms. Web and graphic software skill is a plus, as is knowledge of foreign languages and cultures. Academic credit available if needed. Monthly Unlimited Metro Card provided with a commitment of 20+ hours per week. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
