Japanese playwright Toshiki Okada’s company, Chelfitsch, will hold an open rehearsal of his new play, Super Premium Soft Double Vanilla Rich, on Tuesday May 6. The rehearsal will run from 3:00-5:00pm New York time and be conducted in Japanese. Tune in to the rehearsal room in Yokohama and check out the newest work from one of today’s most innovative theatre artists.
In this new piece, part-time workers, their shop manager and obnoxious clients present their feelings of hopelessness in the face of a society whose future looks bleaker and bleaker. The piece incorporates the music of J.S.Bach. Over the characteristic embellishments of Baroque music, the performers correspond speech and movements with story in Okada’s distinctive choreographic style. This performance is intended to exhibit the dependency of a performance on music, even more radically than “Hot Pepper, Air Conditioner and the Farewell Speech“(2009). The play will premiere at Theater de Welt in Mannheim, Germany later this month.
Chelfitsch will then tour Europe with the new piece from May 20-June 14:
