On Wednesday, February 19, The Play Company will host a conversation with the playwright Keith Josef Adkins (Artistic Director of New Black Fest), Sade Lythcott (CEO of The National Black Theatre) and Jonathan McCory (Director of the Theatre Arts Program, The National Black Theatre) and Playwright Tala Manassah. Through New Black Fest, Mr. Adkins commissioned seven U.S. playwrights to each write a play for the series FACING OUR TRUTH: TEN MINUTE PLAYS ON TRAYVON, RACE AND PRIVILEGE. The plays just completed a highly successful run at The National Black Theatre, and have had equally successful presentations at Woolly Mammoth (Washington DC) and New World Play Laboratory (Akron, OH), sparking a dynamic conversation in each community around the Trayvon Martin verdict. Join us for a compelling conversation as we discuss how writers portray race and identity. The discussion will immediately follow the performance and will begin at around 9:00 pm. You don’t need to have attended the performance to attend the event.
